Good or bad point about labels....

When a more "butch-looking" girl passes a "femme-looking" girl they catch each others eye right? Would this be an example of how "labels" or stereotypes are helpful?

However, when a butch girl is more attracted to a butch lookin' girl (or a lipstick attracted to another lipstick) it is actually considered strange. In this case is it the labels that is hurting everything?

Labels come with pre-conceived notions of how a person acts in our community. As much as we love to hate them we instinctively use them.

BUT! We if we use them to DESCRIBE not to DEFINE then this would be a better use right? What are your thoughts?

I definitely think the world would be better off just letting people be people, why must we label one another like so many packages on a shelf to be sorted and cataloged. Yet we do, we do it every day in ways we don't even think about. In generalizing people we miss the opportunity for them to teach us about who they really are and to find out what made them that person. If we are to truly fall in love with the person beneath the skin mustn't we first look past the trappings?

I had quite a few of my friends look at me strange because I made the comment that I've actually dated more butch girls than femme. They can't see it because I carry myself more butch like. But I cared for each one...and what they carried inside was what I was more attracted to. Not outside. Now...don't get me wrong, a nice little femme will catch my eye...and in regards to how we are compatible it works out a little bit better in the other aspects of sex, responsibilities, and ...dare I say it...roles.

AHah! You dared to say it...and it's true. Dammit!
